Considering the Aesthetic Black Caned Bamboos in the Garden

By Davis Clark at 2013-04-10 00:29:37
Bamboos may not be a strong favorite with a lot of homeowners who have no time for gardening as they do not have the right facts to appreciate the bamboo species. The image conjured in their minds on bamboo is the uncontrollable sprouting of root clumps that give an unkempt condition of the home.

Choices of variety

There is a good range of bamboo species to enhance the aesthetics of the home or garden without too much fuss. Those who are well versed with the bamboo species capitalize on the plant’s advantage such as planting them for screening and aesthetic purposes.

The bamboo species come in a variety of stem colors that run from yellow to black. The black caned bamboos are very unique and make a lovely screen in the garden as they gracefully move their tender branches and leaves.

Requirements for growth

Bamboos of any variety would need a certain amount of room to grow as the species can be rather bushy with the sprouting of clumps. They can erupt to neighboring soil if not kept in tight rein through proper maintenance. However, the black caned bamboos run rather shallowly and are easily unearthed with a gentle spade.

They grow easily through the small clump depending on the available soil condition. They flourish best in deep humus soil that is rich and moist compared to being planted in heavy clay soil. Bamboo plants grow much taller in the former than latter. Their growth can be very much contained in a bin or any sized container without impacting their height and general growth beauty.

Black bamboo plants prefer wetter soil conditions than their cousins of other colors as they dry out quickly in the wind. Many gardeners and green-thumb homeowners relish the joy of witnessing new spears sprouting in April with a record high of one foot in just one week.

Hedge option

The Bamboo species can be considered for hedging as they are usually planted for screening purposes. The black species add color to the environment with its black canes and green foliage as a graceful colored natural screen. Its gentle foliage sways with the gentle breeze to form some delightful movements that lend beauty to the garden.

Black caned bamboo hedging is favored by some homeowners over other types of hedging plant choices as the former has large and plentiful evergreen clumps that form an excellent hedge against intruders. The plant also provides lovely arching green canes that would turn blackish-brown as they mature; that is, after 2 years. Hence, it is a delightful sight in any garden to view this change.
